FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
1.
What does "Namak" mean?
"Namak" is the Persian, Urdu and Hindi word for Salt. Not
only do we like the way it sounds, we also like what it represents... In Persian,
to say someone is "Ba Namak" (literally "with salt") is
to say that person is funny, charming or cute. Salt is an ingredient, a part
of something bigger. It adds flavor and zest to foods, and is used as a preservative.
Namak Magazine does the same thing for the Iranian culture. Check out more
details on what "Namak" means here.
2. Why do
you only publish in English?
We publish in English so we stay connected to our audience, many of whom may
speak Persian but are not proficient readers. We use the language our audience
is most comfortable with. We also want our content to be accessible to the
larger, mainstream community.
3. Why do
you focus on young Iranians, why not enlarge your scope?
Our community needs a publication that is in synch with the times. A young
generation of Iranians are growing up without a distinct voice of their own.
Established publications cater to an older, politicized, Persian-speaking
audience. Namak fulfills a very real, pressing need in our community.
4. Does this
mean every article will be specifically about Iranians?
No. Our subject matter will not be exclusively about Iranians. It will, however,
always be of interest and extremely relevant to the Iranian community. For
example, restaurant reviews that only cover Iranian restaurants would ignore
the fact that Iranians also eat Italian, Chinese, Thai and Mexican foods.
Covering diverse topics furthers our mission to bring people together, and
speaks directly to the multicultural identity many Iranians are proud of.
5. What topics
does Namak cover?
Namak's editorial scope is fairly broad. We're a community-based, lifestyle
magazine. So we're concerned with issues and topics our readers find relevant
to their daily lives. Generally, Namak covers film, fashion, music, relationships,
health, and events. But we also regularly feature longer, more substantive
pieces on art, culture, personalities, global issues and what it means to
be Iranian.
6. How do
I send a "Letter to the Editor"?
You may use our online form, email
the editor directly or send regular mail to:
Namak Magazine
Letter to the Editor
18034 Ventral Blvd. #113
Encino, CA 91316
You must accept our Submission Policy

7. Will my
letter be answered?
We try to answer each letter individually, but that's sometimes an overwhelming
task. We do, after all, have a magazine to produce. So we may answer several
similar letters as a group in the Letters to the Editor section. To increase
your chances of getting a personal response, please be succinct and provide
a valid email address.
8. How can
I work for Namak?
There are lots of ways! You can contribute editorial
content, photographs, illustrations,
ideas, your time, your support. Use the Contact
page to find emails and online forms through which you can get in touch with
us. You can also participate in Namak Community Events. (Stay tuned... We'll
be announcing them soon.) And finally, you can apply for an internship
or a job with Namak.

12. Why not
distribute the magazine for free like some other Iranian publications?
We would love to! We want as many people to have access to our magazine as
possible. But we also have a strong commitment to producing a high quality
publication. We hire the best writers, designers, photographers and printers
so the product our readers get is not just something they read and toss, but
something they'll be proud to keep for a long time. We really consider our
readers to be making an investment of their time and money, and work hard
to give them a great value.
